Half Day Village/ School /Traditional Life Tour
Tour Type
Duration
This tour involves a deep into rural Kenyan life
. Depart from your hotel at around 0840 hours. After a 25-minute drive, you will be immersed in Digo and Giriama (indigenous people of Diani) Villages.
The first stop is Ukunda market where you will able to see a lot of people buying and selling different things to enhance their daily living. Here, you’ll find a fascinating variety of goods, including produce such as fruits and vegetables from local farms, spices, meats, textiles, and even some unexpected items, both local and international, such as safari shoes by Bata, pseudo designer label jeans, and unbranded clothing from Western countries.
Another stop will be at public primary schools during school days excluding holidays (it is a nice idea to bring small gifts of books, pens or sweets). A teacher will be more than glad to welcome you and take you through the Kenyan education system before visiting some classrooms for interaction.
Soul soothing welcome songs and broad innocent smile will be displayed by these young learners who will be more than willing to share with you their learning experience. Items such as learning materials, books, pens, erasers, pencil, as well as playing items and toys are similarly that you may bring as gifts are highly appreciated by these ever grateful children. Stop for the demonstration of coconut tree climbing, harvesting and even have a taste of this healthy natural juice.
Take a walk through the village and see how both small and large scale farming is done by the villagers. You will see crops such as cassava, bananas, mango trees, cashewnut trees, cowpeas, maize, pumpkin and many more.
A visit to the local Mganga (the Swahili name for a witch doctor) but these days they deal in healing and herbal treatments, not casting spells! (Although many have psychic powers).
After that, join GIRIAMA DANCE for entertainment as you wind up the visit. Then drive back to your hotel pausing to shop for woodcarving handmade souvenirs on the factory or along the way and finally back to your hotel.
